  I went here earlier this year and was appalled. The liturgy did not follow the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom or any other Eastern rite liturgy. There were a bunch of women running around in different colored robes with each claiming to be appointed by the priest as the Mother of Faith/Purity/etc. It looked more like a harem, to be honest. There was not a homily. The music was sing-songy Protestant music, not Byzantine chant. It was a bastardization of the Divine Liturgy. That said, the people were very friendly, and the church was beautiful. This definitely was not Eastern rite. I don't know what it was!

  I don't know who Eileen Koval is...but SHE IS WRONG. Maybe she came on one of those rare days that we had a substitute priest from the Latin Rite, I don't know. Every Orthodox or Byzantine person I talk to says our Litrugy is "JUST LIKE THEIRS". The people are welcoming, the parish is small compared to Latin Rite parishes...and the pastor knows every member of the church. I highly recommend checking out this beautiful church and the Eastern Church Divine Liturgy. This is an Italo-Greek Byzantine church, and we DON'T have sing songy songs...they are all traditional Byzantine or Italo-Greek or traditional Catholic. The whole liturgy is CHANTED. Eileen Koval either has a chip on her shoulder and wishes to defame us, or she went to an entirely different church than ours. NONE of the people in robes (both men & women) claim to be what Eileen said. They are officers of the church and this part of the liturgy is from our Italo-Greek tradition.....all they do is stand up in the center aisle under the dome during the readings of the day, unless they are a reader, then they chant the Epistle. The priest (or deacon when we had one) reads the Gospel. The different robe colors denote the office the person holds. Regarding "looking like a harem", our walls have icons painted on them and hanging wood icons are on the walls. Maybe she doesn't like the bright pallet, which are typical of the Italo-Greek tradition. Most of our Icons are actually painted by monks and sisters in Greece. I am appalled with Eileen's false post.
